Gunnera tinctoria dwarfs Rach @ Stone Crop Gardens
Ed & Rachael Doty have both been involved with plants in some way for most of their lives.
For over two decades, they separately pursued careers in horticulture until in 2001, while both working together at a perennial nursery, they met. Going on their first date to the New York Botanical Gardens they were amazed by how much they had in common. Many years later, the rest is history...
In 2003 they purchased their 3 acre, 1790 Farmhouse in Mount Hope, NY. Ed is the fourth generation Doty living on the farm which his great-grandfather bought in 1929. In 2004 they started Shawangunk Horticultural Service as a hands-on, artisan gardening and landscape company. Then in 2005 they decided to purchase a greenhouse and started Shawangunk Growers as the sister business to offer their customers plants at a more reasonable price and better variety.
For all of us in this fast-paced, plastic world, having a great garden right outside the home is a great way to enjoy the wonder of nature that surrounds us each and everyday.
